The frescoes
On the external walls of the chapel you can see the frescoes of the Death and Funeral of St. Francis executed in 1886 by the painter Domenico Bruschi.
The internal wall decorations are those of the fifteenth century painter Giovanni di Pietro (called Spagna), who lived from around 1450 to 1528, and was one of the immediate followers of Perugino. They depict beatified or canonized Franciscans.
In a glass case inside the chapel a precious Franciscan relic is conserved, the rope belt of the saint, given to the Sanctuary by Pope Pio IX (1846-78).
